Survivor Support Services

If you have experienced sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, and harassment, please know that you deserve to be seen and heard. The experience is not your fault, and often, after such incidents, you may find yourself navigating through a whirlwind of emotions.

Responses to traumatic events can vary greatly, or you might not feel any emotion attached to the situation. It's important for you to understand that any emotion or lack of emotion is valid.

Our dedicated Sexual Misconduct Support Services Team is here for you! We genuinely recognize how challenging it can be to navigate your feelings after an incident while also trying to figure out the next steps. You don't have to go through this alone. Our services are confidential, and when you're ready, you can reach out to us via email at smss@uh.edu or give us a call at (832) 842-9472.

Options on Reporting

If you are comfortable, you have options for reporting an incident of sexual misconduct:

Equal Opportunity Services Office is dedicated to fostering an environment of equality and fairness for all individuals. Their office diligently investigates cases of sexual misconduct and discrimination, offering you the choice to proceed with an investigation at your discretion.

The University of Houston Police Department (UHPD) serves as the campus law enforcement agency, specializing in the criminal investigation of offenses such as sexual assault, harassment, intimate partner violence, stalking, and exploitation.

Additionally, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and the Houston Police Department (HPD) are available for off-campus incidents, providing separate criminal investigations from UHPD.

Reporting sexual misconduct can be very difficult. We recognize the challenges you may face and want you to know that it is your decision to report it, and when. The SMSS team is here to support you in navigating your feelings and help you with the next steps.
