Cybersecurity is one of the most challenging applications of computer science in the corporate world. A multidisciplinary topic full of open problems and with a potentially huge impact to every company's bottom line, cybersecurity offers exciting opportunities for the computer scientist who likes to break things every once in a while. This talk will discuss a few ways that mathematical modeling and high performance computing come into play as essential tools for cybersecurity monitoring at the scale of a multinational corporation.

Bio:

Irene Stein is a data scientist specializing in big data computing infrastructure and cybersecurity. She graduated in 2006 from the University of Houston with degrees in mathematics and computer science. Irene has worked at Chevron for 11 years, beginning her career in technical computing for geology and geophysics before moving into the data science R&D organization in 2014.

Kashif Khan is an emerging technology analyst focusing on natural language processing and augmented reality. He graduated in 2006 from the University of Houston with a degree in computer science. Kashif has worked for Chevron for 10 years, beginning his career in the IT group as a software developer and held various positions in IT before heading to ET in 2016.
