11th Annual Residency Mentoring Social 

UHCOP Alumna, Author and Award-winning Pharmacy Leader Diane Ginsburg to Deliver Keynote at Jan. 26 SSHP Event 

The 11th Annual Residency Mentoring Social will feature UH College of Pharmacy alumna, acclaimed author-editor and and award-winning pharmacy leader Diane B. Ginsburg, Ph.D., M.S., R.Ph., FASHP, as its keynote speaker Tuesday, Jan. 26, on the UH Campus. 

Co-hosted by the UH Chapter of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Texas Southern University SSHP Chapter, the social will be 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the UH Alumni Center, 3100 Cullen Blvd., 77004. The event is sponsored by the Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the UH Activities Funding Board. ginsburg jpgGinsburg is currently a clinical professor in the Division of Health Outcomes and Pharmacy Practice and assistant dean for Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.

Ginsburg completed her B.S. in pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 1984, her M.S. in hospital pharmacy at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy in 1990 and her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration & Leadership at The University of Texas at Austin in 2014. She completed a two-year ASHP accredited residency in hospital pharmacy administration in 1987 at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She has been active with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, including as President and director on the ASHP Board of Directors as well as Chair of the ASHP Research and Education Foundation Board of Directors. Ginsburg has served ASHP in several additional capacities, including: chair of the Council on Educational Affairs; editorial advisory board member of the American Journal of Health-Systems Pharmacists; Texas Delegate; and co-coordinator of the National Clinical Skills Competition. She also has served on various Practice Interest Advisory Panels as well as on the advisory panel that was instrumental in forming the ASHP Student Forum. Ginsburg is the editor-in-chief of ASHP’s PharmPrep Interactive Case-Based Review as well as an author and editor of ASHP’s Preceptor’s Handbook for Pharmacists, which is now in its 3rd edition.

Ginsburg also has been active with other pharmacy organizations, including the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP). With AMCP, she served as a contributing editor and member of the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy Editorial Advisory Board; chair of the AMCP Schools of Pharmacy Relations Committee; and a member of the AMCP Legislative Affairs Committee.

She is a Past President of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP) and has served TSHP in the following capacities: Secretary; Chair, Communication and Public Affairs Councils; Seminar Co-Chair; and Vice President of the TSHP Research & Education Foundation. She has received several honors and awards from TSHP, including the TSHP Mentor Award, Pharmacist Recognition Award, and Health-System Pharmacist of the Year Award.

In addition to her service to ASHP and TSHP, Ginsburg is a past president of the Austin Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

She also was honored with the 2005 Distinguished Alumnus Award by the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.

Ginsburg is internationally known for her work on communication skills, ethics, and the legal and regulatory aspects of pharmacy and health care.
