Career Highlights
Prior to becoming Hilton College’s seventh dean in July 2015, served as the Ivar Haglund Endowed Professor of Hospitality Management and director of the Wine Business Management Program at the Washington State University Carson College of Business, and is a former J. Thomas Clark Professor of Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise at Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration; author or co-author of six textbooks; ranked 15th among the world’s most prolific hospitality-management authors with more than 100 articles published in such journals as the Academy of Management Learning and Education, the Advanced Management Journal, the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, and the International Journal of Hospitality Management; served on the editorial boards of all the leading hospitality journals; recipient of numerous Academy of Management and other research, teaching and service awards, including Best Paper from the Academy of Management, the International Journal of Hospitality Management’s Best Paper of 2007, multiple Teacher of the Year awards (Cornell University and Washington State University), and Doctorate of Foodservice Award from the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers; past president and decade-long board member of International CHRIE, the non-profit professional organization that provides programs and services supporting global education, research and service in the hospitality and tourism industry; honored with the prestigious Founders Award for lifetime achievement in 2018 as well as the organization’s highest recognition – the Howard B. Meek Award – for lifetime achievement in 2019; frequent speaker to management groups in Asia, Europe and North America; and cited in various international, national, regional and local media, including Morning Edition on National Public Radio.
