CotA Theatre Professor Named University Educator of the Year

Texas Educational Theatre Association awarded Jackie deMontmollin for her contributions to theatre education.

The University of Houston’s College of the Arts (CotA) faculty members are no strangers to accolades and acclaim. This year, Jackie deMontmollin, Associate Director of Theatre Education, was awarded a top honor by the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TETA). She was named 2016’s University Educator of the Year for her exemplary efforts to advance the field of theatre education and will be recognized at the 2017 TETA Awards Reception in Galveston, Texas.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by TETA,” she said, adding that she credits much of her success to the support provided by the UH School of Theatre and Dance. “[This award] isn’t just for me, but for our entire team’s dedication and hard work.”

As the developer and program head for CotA’s Summer Master of Arts for Theatre Educators and BFA in Theatre Education, deMontmollin says theatre arts provide a unique interdisciplinary environment that empowers people to have a voice.

“Engaging in theatre is an incredible, life-altering experience—both for students and teachers,” she said. “I am honored to get to work with people who are passionate about theatre education every day.”
