Dr. Lee Awarded Research Grant by the American Parkinson Disease Association
HHP faculty Dr. Beom-Chan Lee has been awarded a research grant by the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) for his project titled, "Validation of smartphone-based sensory augmentation technology for home-based balance training of people with Parkinson's disease". The APDA awards this grant to investigators affiliated with and performing Parkinson's disease research at major academic institutions across the United States.
Dr. Beom-Chan Lee
Dr. Lee's research will assess the impact on long-term rehabilitative training for people with Parkinson Disease who receive in-home balance exercises with assistive guidance via a smartphone-based biofeedback system and will further investigate the carry-over effects of improved postural control to confidence in daily activities and less fear of falling.
The American Parkinson Disease Association announced research awards totalling $1.6 million for the 2016-2017 funding cycle, including the George C. Cotzias Fellowship, three post doctoral fellowships, seven research grants and eight APDA Centers of Advanced Research. Leslie A. Chambers, President & CEO of APDA stated that, “The main focus of APDA’s research program is to fund the best scientists with the brightest ideas to help solve the mystery of Parkinson Disease. These researchers all exemplify this profile and we are extremely pleased to be able to fund this range of important work."
