18th IAA Humans in Space Symposium: 30th Anniversary of the First Space Shuttle Mission.

The HHP department and The University of Houston were among the sponsoring organizations for the 18th International Academy of Astronautics Humans in Space Symposium held in Houston from April 11-15th. This years symposium commemorates the 30th anniversary of the first space shuttle flight.

One of the events for the symposium featured comments by astronaut Robert Crippen, the pilot of the first space shuttle mission.

The University of Houston featured the symposium in a news article, below is a brief excerpt from the article quoting HHP faculty Dr. William Paloski:

"We all held our breath as we watched the Shuttle Columbia glide back to Earth, and shared the excitement of the crew's victory," said William Paloski, UH professor of health and human performance.  "We are fortunate to have Robert Crippen to share his thoughts of that historic day."
