From April 4-6 the University of Houston and the Inter-University Program for Latino Research (IUPLR) proudly hosted the 6th Latino Art Now! Conference.

The LAN! Conference brought together artists, curators, scholars, collectors, museum professionals, and others from around the world to discuss and celebrate the impact and importance of Latino art.

The opening ceremony of the conference included remarks from Dr. Pamela Anne Quiroz, Director of the IUPLR and CMAS, Mari Carmen Ramirez of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and Tomas Ybarra-Frausto.

The evening ended with an opening reception that took place within the Legacy Room of Houston City Hall. Notable guests in attendance were Mayor Sylvester Turner, City Council Members Karla Cisneros and Robert Gallegos and UH Board of Regents Member Paula Mendoza

On April 5 and 6 the University Center South at the University of Houston served as the host venue to more than two dozen panel discussions covering an exciting variety of topics regarding the Latin-American experience in art and society. The conference had an overall attendance of over 470 participants from around the world.

To highlight the importance of the conference and the Spring of Latino Art, the University of Houston's Center for Mexican American Studies and IUPLR accepted a proclamation from the City of Houston City Council naming April 4-6, 2019 as Latino Art Now! Days.

The Center would like to thank all those involved in the staging of such an impactful and important event for the University of Houston and the Latino community.
