Applications of AI/ML from Nuclear Data to Reactor Design

Thursday, February 8, 2024

11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The terms artificial intelligence and machine learning are so common in the modern lexicon that it is somewhat difficult to exactly define the boundaries of these concepts. This presentation is built around an attempt to establish this understanding. Sobes provides several examples motivating research into the application of AI/ML methods, provides his vision for the future of AI/ML in nuclear data and reactor design and shares some lessons learned along the way.

About the Speaker

Vladimir Sobes is an assistant professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering. He received his Bachelors and Doctorate degrees from MIT in Nuclear Science and Engineering and worked for six years at ORNL before joining the faculty at UTK NE. His research interests span from nuclear data to reactor design. In recent years, he has been exploring the application of modern artificial intelligence and machines learning algorithms to current problems in nuclear engineering
